Job Description:
The Communications Department at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the area of communications law beginning in fall 2024. Candidates with experience in the practice of communications law are encouraged to apply.Successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in working with a diverse group of students from the undergraduate to the doctoral level.Successful candidates should expect a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; department, school and university committee service; and service to the field.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. or J.D. is required. Strong ABDs will be considered.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have a strong track record or demonstrate a promise for strong a trajectory of scholarship, in research or policy development regarding any area of communications law, either in the US and/or internationally. Prior university teaching experience is desirable.
Responsibilities:
- The faculty member will teach five courses in an academic year. At the undergraduate level, we regularly offer specific courses on communications law for journalism students; for public relations and advertising students; and for students in the television, radio and film industries. At the graduate level we regularly offer courses on media law for our professionally oriented master's students. The ideal candidate should feel comfortable teaching any of these classes. In addition, opportunities may be available for the successful candidates to teach in areas consistent with their experiences.
- The faculty member will be expected to engage in scholarship and/or appropriate professional writing that brings national and/or global visibility to the school such that they become recognized as experts in the field.
- The faculty member will engage in a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; department, school and university committee service; and service to the field.
