Job Description:
Madison College is recruiting a pool of highly motivated and qualified candidates to teach part time courses for the Law Enforcement Academy program. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis for the 2024-2025 academic school year. Organizational Function and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for instruction in the Law Enforcement Academy Program at the college level. This includes designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college service activities at the department, division and college levels. This position reports to the Associate Dean- School of Human and Protective Services.
Essential Duties:
The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Responsible for facilitating student learning in the Law Enforcement Academy program.
2. Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies and alternative delivery strategies when appropriate including but not limited to hybrid, face-to-face and on-line course delivery.
3. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.
4. Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.
5. Use data to continually revise curriculum to improve student learning.
6. Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment, retention and job placement. This includes developing strategies aimed at the recruitment and retention of minority students.
7. Develop and maintain curriculum in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student delivery needs in collaboration with department/ division staff; participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs, other Schools of the College, other colleges and universities, and District K-12 partners.
8. Function without direct supervision in a team environment with the ability to support a cohesive department atmosphere.
9. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
10. Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as clinical affiliations, work study assignments, team projects, etc.
11. Design and implement strategies to engage students in the learning process.
12. Integrate the use of technology into the teaching and learning process.
13. Attend School, program and advisory committee meetings; participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.
14. Plan and implement professional development strategies to continually improve teaching and professional experience.
15. Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
16. Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
17. Demonstrate a commitment to the college's mission, vision and values.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies; learner-centered instruction, active learning, assessment, evaluation; collaborative techniques; and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender, and disability.
2. Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods to deliver high-quality instruction (i.e., online, hybrid, and accelerated course formats, course software such as Blackboard, video, Telepresence, etc).
3. Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds, as well as individuals with disablities.
4. Skill in oral and written communication.
5. Ability to interact with business, industry, other educational institutions, and government agencies to establish partnerships.
6. Knowledge of and experience in coursework and teaching in specific areas such as: First Responder, EMT-Basic, Intermediate Technician, EMTIntermediate and Paramedic, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Juvenile Law,
Constitutional law, Criminal Investigation,
Traffic Theory, Report Writing, Criminology, Community Policing Strategies, Professional Communications, Organization and Administration, and other Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement subjects.
7. Ability to interact with criminal justice agencies and personnel to establish partnerships.
Qualifications:
1. Three (3) years (6,000 hours) of work experience as a certified law enforcement officer.
- One (1) year (2,000 hours) of related work experience must be within the past five (5) years.
- Two (2) years of full-time equivalent teaching experience in a related area at an accredited college within the past five (5) years may be substituted for the one (1) year of related work experience within the past five (5) years.
2. Must have all appropriate WI DOJ training in content area.
3. Successful completion of the LESB-approved Criminal Justice Instructor Development Course (CJIDC).
Special Instructions to Applicants:
Madison College utilizes pool postings for all Part-time Instructor positions. This posting is a pool position to collect applications for potential part-time instruction positions. Part-time Instructors are hired on a per course basis each semester, and teaching one semester does not guarantee assignment for the following semester. The teaching hours for a part-time instructor vary and can include day, evening, and weekend classes.
