Position Description
Provides advice and monitors institutional compliance with equal opportunity, affirmative action, and non-discrimination laws and regulations.
Major/Essential Functions
- Conduct independent and unbiased investigations of internal complaints of discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment and Title IX complaints involving employees. This includes handling all stages of complaints of discrimination, unlawful employment practices, and Title IX violations including intake, evaluation, investigation, reporting, and findings.
- Ability to gather facts, conduct investigative interviews, identify witnesses, evaluate evidence and credibility, and interpret and apply EEO laws, Title IX regulations, and other laws and employment policies.
- Requires significant writing and analysis. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to analyze information and data with attention to detail. Must use sound judgment in determining findings and prepare accurate and thorough written reports of findings.
- Work closely with Human Resources staff at the component institutions to advise those offices on matters relating to discrimination, affirmative action, and employment law, including providing guidance on various personnel issues including workplace behavior, ADA accommodations, leaves of absence, and terminations.
- Collaborate with Title IX Offices at the different institutions and assist in addressing and investigating Title IX matters.
- Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and managing challenging situations.
- Possess knowledge of EEO, Title IX, Executive Order 11246, and other employment laws and regulations and ability to research and apply those and other laws.
- Ability to develop and deliver training for faculty and staff at the component institutions.
- Collaborate with offices across campuses to coordinate the compliance efforts associated with the University's obligations under equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations. Must have the ability to work with diverse groups/organizations.
- Review, develop, or draft policies for all component institutions.
- Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and to handle sensitive matters.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
JD Degree
One to three years of legal experience
Experience in conducting internal and external investigations
Knowledge of federal and state equal opportunity and anti-discrimination laws and regulations, including Title VII, Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Clery Act, and Affirmative Action laws
